Publishers Perspective

When you picture tranquillity under the Mexican sun, what comes to mind: sprawling beachfront property; breathtaking oceanside views; and a dedicated concierge? Welcome to Tres Palmeras, a beautiful two-story villa North of Tulum, on the Southeastern tip of Mexico. A rustic take on Central American grandeur, this 4,000 square foot estate—complete with massive swimming pool—is straight out of your dreams.

When you arrive, chose one of four bedrooms, including two identical masters, each with a king size bed; the other two are equipped with a total of four queens, meaning there’s plenty of room to relax. The property is also a relaxing splurge for a couple or an introspective retreat for just you. Once you’ve staked your room, drop your bags and wander to the rooftop patio and gaze upon the Caribbean. Let the rolling tide mesmerize you, drawing your eyes ever closer with the splash of the surf.

Maybe it’s drawing your body closer, too. Kick off your shoes and run across the sand toward the warm ocean water. Maybe even grab the property’s kayak. And if you need a post-workout nap, treat yourself to a relaxing sway on the shaded hammock: perfect for recharging your batteries.

One of the reasons Tulum is such a popular tourist destination is its designation as a protected turtle nesting ground. You may have a chance to see the legendary sight of up to hundreds of newborn Loggerhead and Green Sea turtles crawling from their nests to the ocean. It’s one of the many reasons guests return annually and have been doing so since the property’s construction in 2003.

Tres Palmeras is outfitted with onsite housekeeping—the wonderful couple live in their own private villa—to ensure every moment of your stay in this gorgeous house is as perfect as you’ve always imagined. The kitchen is full of old-world charm: picture hanging cast iron pans and a heavy butcher’s block island. Beautiful cabinetry. It’s easy to imagine preparing a feast in this room.

Don’t feel like cooking? The property offers a meal preparation service, allowing you to opt-in for single meals or food for your entire stay. Have breakfast prepared daily or enjoy nightly margaritas. The menu is several pages long and includes a number of house specialities like Chile Relleno and Arrachera—you can even have the refrigerator fully stocked upon request. The property managers will bring everything to you, so there’s no need to leave the estate.

If you and your guests do decide to venture out of the house, rent a car and head into town and one of the best beaches in Mexico. On either side of Tulum National Park, you’ll find quirky, one-of-a-kind restaurants featuring mouthwatering munchies—and mezcal. Then it’s time to check out the shopping: artisan-crafted leathers and knits. Hand-woven garments in soft tones, perfect for the beautiful weather.

Tulum is also home to a number of cenotes: open and underwater sinkholes and caves. These support diverse ecosystems of wondrously colourful marine life and you can swim amongst them by snorkelling or scuba diving. Some have zip lines and the experience is so unique (and fast!) you may need to do it a second time just to take in everything.

Make it a day of sightseeing with a 40-minute drive to Coba, the ancient Ruins in neighbouring Yucatan. Bring your walking shoes and prepare to climb some of the oldest structures in human history. On that note, pack an extra memory card, too: you’ll be taking a lot of stunning photographs. The area is also a prime location for other outdoor activities, including bird watching, fishing, and sailing, among others.

Tres Palmeras and the surrounding area is home to the perfect marriage of ancient sightseeing and modern relaxation. You can break a sweat doing some of the on-property or nearby activities and then take a much-needed break on the hammock or in the pool. Escape the stress of your every day and treat yourself to some of the most incredible sights—and indulgence—on the Riviera Maya.
