If you’re bored of the same old wine tastings, it’s time to enter the sake side!

With an incredible variety, smooth finish, and complex flavours, sake is ready to shake things up this year.

With Japanese cuisine booming in Canada as seen on 2024 Michelin guides, the National spirit that captures the heart and culture of Japan remains relatively under the radar.

On a mission to change that is Michael Tremblay—one of Canada’s only two certified Sake Samurais. He is showing Canadians that sake is highly versatile, and like wine, it can be savoured, paired, and enjoyed in many exciting ways!

Whether you prefer a light, floral Ginjo, citrusy Yuzu, or a warm smooth Junmai, sake has a style to suit every taste. Try pairing a crisp Ginjo with grilled seafood, or a tangy Yuzu to complement spicy dishes and vibrant salads.

Due to its limited availability in Canada, the Japanese External Trade Organization and the Consulate General of Japan recently hosted an immersive cultural experience to help Canadians discover sake.

Guests explored different varieties, tried unexpected food pairings led by the Sake Samurai, and learned about the centuries-old traditions behind the drink while enjoying cultural performances.

So next time you’re planning on hosting a wine night, think beyond the bottle and give sake a seat at the table. Kanpai!
