A new European-inspired restaurant, Convivium Dining Community, is opening its doors in downtown Toronto. Located at 83 Yonge Street, this three-story venue will offer a menu that highlights seasonal ingredients and aims to create a welcoming atmosphere for guests to connect and explore. The restaurant, designed by Dull Genius Design, blends the historic character of the 1857 Tin & Copper Smith Building with contemporary elegance, paying homage to the building’s long-standing presence in the city.

Each level of Convivium will provide a distinct experience: the ground floor will host refined yet relaxed dining, the second floor will feature private rooms and a cocktail bar, and the top floor will be dedicated to events and celebrations, accommodating up to 100 people. The building itself holds historical significance, having once been the home of The Evening Star—an early version of the Toronto Star—and a gathering place for artisans and journalists. The ambiance at Convivium draws on this heritage, combining vintage charm with modern style to suit both casual and intimate occasions.

The name “Convivium” comes from Latin, meaning a gathering for shared meals and experiences. Staying true to this concept, the restaurant aims to be more than just a dining spot, offering a space where guests can unwind, connect, and enjoy a sense of community. In addition to its culinary offerings, Convivium plans to host a variety of cultural events, such as art exhibitions, wine tastings, charity functions, and private gatherings, reflecting Toronto’s vibrant and diverse cultural scene.

Founder Maxim Popov envisions Convivium as a place that brings together hospitality, art, wine education, and culture, fostering connections not only through food but also through shared interests like exhibitions and performances. Executive Chef Oxana Glazkova will lead the kitchen, presenting a menu centered on seasonal ingredients, with dishes that tell a story. The menu will include Canadian meats, Atlantic seafood, and house-made dressings with unique flavors, such as sea buckthorn and lingonberries. A standout dish, the Black Angus Tartare, will be served atop a confit of potato and topped with chili aioli and black caviar, offering a blend of textures and flavors.

Soups will play a prominent role on the menu, with a rotating selection of 15 to 17 varieties, including both hot and chilled options, showcasing Chef Glazkova’s dedication to technique and tradition. General Manager Gio Stefanopoulos, who brings extensive experience from opening numerous Toronto restaurants and working internationally, will oversee operations, ensuring high standards of hospitality and memorable guest experiences.

The beverage program will feature a thoughtfully selected wine list with organic and biodynamic options from Europe, Canada, and Australia, as well as a cocktail menu emphasizing house infusions and seasonal ingredients. Convivium Dining Community is set to become a new hub for food, culture, and community in downtown Toronto.
