I’ve worn more than my fair share of shoes, and usually the first few days are a battle — stiff soles, tight leather, and pinched toes until they finally give in and mold to my feet. Not so with the new Arc’teryx Konseal. Right out of the box, they felt broken-in: supportive yet supple, and surprisingly sleek. I could just as easily wear them to shoot hoops or meet friends for dinner as take them up a rocky ridge.
Arc’teryx’s newest release builds on the legacy of its well-loved Konseal AR, taking what worked and refining the details for an even more capable approach shoe. Designed to handle the punishing demands of alpine travel, the Konseal blends durability, stability, and comfort, making it equally suited for multi-pitch days and all-day urban adventures.
The upper is crafted from premium nubuck leather, chosen for its balance of ruggedness and breathability in warm conditions. The updated lace-to-toe system allows for a highly personalized fit, while a clever lace garage keeps knots neat and out of the way. The redesigned heel lock holds the foot securely, reducing the risk of blisters and boosting confidence on uneven, high-angle terrain.
Underfoot, a lightweight compressed EVA midsole delivers responsive cushioning and excellent shock absorption, paired with a carbon shank for the torsional stiffness needed when carrying heavy packs across unstable ground. To extend longevity, the midsole is wrapped in a tough, abrasion-resistant layer that shrugs off scrapes and scuffs from rocks and debris.
The result is a shoe that feels as adaptable as it is technical — equally at home crossing a talus field as it is navigating a night out in town. Arc’teryx hasn’t just updated the Konseal; they’ve evolved it into a tool for those who refuse to choose between performance and style.
